Certified Nursing Assistant


How would you like to make a difference in the lives of older adults without having to work nights or weekends?  We are seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant who is available to work full time days, Monday-Friday.

Duties include but are not limited to: assisting with personal cares and activities of daily living and following plans of care.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Previous experience working with frail elders and/or adults who have physical and/or cognitive disabilities, mental health concerns, dementia and Alzheimer's - preferred.

Knowledge of transfers and experience using lifts.

Satisfactory completion of state approved C.N.A. course and a certification as a C.N.A. in good standing on the Wisconsin Nurse Aide registry required.

The ability to work in a fast pace, team environment.

Experience with medication administration and accurately recording medications.

The Adult Day Center has volunteer opportunities available all year long.

Greeter – Available Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. You are one of the first people our participants see when they arrive at our center. Saying “Hello”, escorting them into the center, assisting with hanging up their coats, serving a morning snack and casual conversation are all things you will do as the Greeter.

Day Center Assistant – Available Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. You will assist with set-up, serving, and clean-up of lunch. Escorting participants to and from lunch and causal conversation are also common tasks.

Activity Assistant – Available Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. You help with a variety of activities such as:

Help a participant navigate the internet or send an email, games, read, tutor, and enjoy conversation.  

Assist with small group activities like playing cards, going for a short walk, and playing games.

Assist staff with large group activities like woodworking, needlework, or leather-work.

Share your special talent! Musical skills, dancing, storytelling, discussions/presentations about travels or hobbies, etc.

Special Event Assistant – Available as special events occur, the hours vary. You will help staff during special events by: escorting and socializing with participants, assisting with general set-up and clean-up, and helping facilitate group activities.

What is required of a volunteer?

Attend all required orientation, training sessions, and health screenings.

Treat people with respect and compassion, try to understand the challenges our participants face.

Familiarize yourself with day center participants (names, interests, preferences, etc.).

Promote participant independence – don’t “help” too much.

Participate in forwarding the mission and goals of Catholic Charities.

Abide by all policies, procedures and Department Guidelines of Catholic Charities and the Adult Day Center Program.

Accept volunteer limitations. Volunteers are not permitted to transfer, lift or take any participant to the restroom for any reason.

Maintain participant confidentiality at all times.

What are the qualifications for volunteering?

Ability, interest, and commitment to providing excellent customer service to participants. You will be assisting the frail elderly, physically disabled, chronically mentally ill, and developmentally disabled.

Follow directions, communicate, and work in a team environment.

Physical ability for walking, standing, bending, and lifting 5-10 pounds.

Present a positive self-image.
